1. How can I get information on Korean education?

You can find information on Korean education at the following website of the Ministry of Education & Human Resources Development: www.moe.go.kr/en/index.html
- Visit there and click "Education in Korea" in the left column


2. How can I find elementary and secondary schools in Korea?

Since many of Korean schools have their own homepage, you can simply type the school name in a searching website.

* If you have anyone near you who can read Korean, you can visit the web page of "http:/www.moe.go.kr". Clicking "School Information" in the left column, a page will pop up where you can type in the name of the school. Or, visit the website of the Provincial Offices of Education, where you can find information on schools. Here are a list of the Provincial offices of education:

3. where can I find information on the accreditation of Korean colleges/universities?

- Visit the website of the Ministry of Education & HRD (www.moe.go.kr/Engish) and click "Study in Korea" in the left column, where you can find a list of accredited universities, colleges, independent graduate schools, and cyber universities & colleges.

4. Is there any governmental program for teaching English in Korea?

Yes. There is a program called English Program in Korea (EPIK) through which you can teach English to Korean public secondary school students. If you apply for this program, you may have a chance to teach English in Korean public secondary schools.

If you are interested in this program, please visit the official website of the EPIK office (epik.knue.ac.kr). You can also contact the education center in Washington, DC at 202-939-5680 by phone.


5. How can I learn the Korean language?

There are many ways you can learn Korean.

First, there is a Korean language program in the Korean Embassy. You can ask the Office of Culture & Information at 202) 797-6343.

Second, you can visit a Korean language school near your house. The list of such schools are at the website of the Korean Embassy. Or you can contact Education Center at 202-939-5680.

Third, you can learn simple Korean on the following websites:

  • Korean Studies at Sogang (Korean.sogang.ac.kr)
  • Korean Yellowpages for Foreigners (www.yellowpages.co.kr)

  • Fourth, you can visit Korea, and learn the Korean language more systematically. The following institutions generally opens Korean language courses:

  • 6. how can I apply for the Korean Honor Scholarship?

    Each year the Korean Embassy selects a certain number of scholars(in 2002, 60 scholars) for this program.
    You can apply for this scholarship generally between April and May(in 2002, March 18, 2002 - June 14, 2002) and the basic qualifications are as follows:

    - At the time of application, an applicant must be a full time college or graduate student who has got a grade point average of 3.5 or higher at least for the last one year(for music and art students, 3.0 or higher).
    - Student with both Korean parents or a single Korean parent can apply.
    - Legally adopted Korean-American students can also apply.
    - Scholarship will not be awarded more than two times per each student.
    - Senior undergraduate students can apply only when they can prove that they have been admitted to graduate school.
