The Korean Information Center was established in January, 1993 affiliated with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea. Its name was changed to the Korean Cultural Service in June, 1998, as greater importance was given to cultural exchanges between Korea and the United States.

    The Service's 50-seat auditorium is well equipped for lectures and presentations in slide, 16mm film, and videotape formats. A 15-seat conference room is also available for group meetings.

    Library The Service maintains a library of 4,500 volumes, with comprehensive collections in the area of political science, sociology, economics, art, literature, and history. The Service's holdings are useful to scholars and others with particular interests in Korean affairs.

    The Service's periodical collection, housed in a separate reading room, contains major political and cultural journals in both languages, including Korean and English language materials.
    Archive The Service has large volumes of audio-visual holdings of several hundred films (feature and documentary), video tapes, and color slides that portray many aspects of Korea's industry, land, history, art, and people.

    ¡Æ Video: Those interested in obtaining a copy for personal or educational use may send blank VHS tape(s) to us with the program titles. LIMIT: five program titles per organization or individual. Feature films may not be copied.

    ¡Æ Slides, 16mm: Only slides and 16 mm are available for loan. We ask that the request for loans be in writing; the letter should contain the applicant's home and work address and phone number, driver's license, social security number, Federal Express or UPS account number if available, and the intended use of the material. All materials should be sent back to us within two weeks.
    Cultural Programs The Service works to strengthen understanding of Korea and promote international awareness by cooperating with Washington, D.C. area schools and institutions in shaping educational programs. The programs focus on culture and history through the use of visual and printed materials.

    ¡Æ Korean Language Classes are held at the Korean Cultural Service regularly throughout the year for beginning, intermediate, and advanced students.

    ¡Æ The Korean Film Series is held bi-weekly at the Service, presenting Korean films for the enjoyment of the public at no charge.

    ¡Æ The Lecture Series on Korea offers regularly scheduled informative_ talks by specialists in various areas of Korean studies.

    ¡Æ Art Exhibits of contemporary works are scheduled monthly. Proposals by private and public organizations to use Center facilities for social, cultural, and educational events related to Korea are welcome, and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
